American History Essay Contest
Over 100 students from St. Timothy’s School participate in our annual American History Essay Contest. Themes are selected to encourage students to research significant and historical people, places, dates, and events. Micajah Bullock Chapter, NSDAR, is proud to have sponsored several District VI and State winners.
DAR Good Citizens Award and Scholarship Contest
Each year the Micajah Bullock Chapter, NSDAR, sponsors a DAR Good Citizens winner from the senior class at St. David’s, a co-educational Episcopal high school in Raleigh. The DAR Good Citizens recipient is selected by the faculty and students for demonstrating the qualities of dependability, service, leadership, and patriotism.
During a school assembly program, the DAR Good Citizens recipient receives a DAR Good Citizens pin. In November, they are recognized at a DAR Good Citizens District VI brunch where they meet the winners from other chapters. The National DAR Good Citizens program was begun in 1934 to recognize high school seniors who, by their actions, show others what it means to be a good citizen.
Scholarships
Affiliation with the DAR is not required for scholarship applicants. The NSDAR sponsors scholarships for citizens of the U.S., attending accredited U.S. schools, and for American Indians. Candidates for the scholarships must be sponsored by a local chapter.
Micajah Bullock Chapter, NSDAR, can only sponsor candidates from Wake County, North Carolina. Other candidates should see the NSDAR Scholarship page for directions on finding the chapter nearest them and other helpful information.
